In a special Tishrei edition of Among Chassidim, Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel shares his fascinating recollections of Tishrei in the Rebbe’s presence.

He relays how when benching Gomel (after arriving from London) in front of the Rebbe and sensing the Rebbe’s gaze, he became so awestruck that he couldn’t pronounce shegmalani. He resolved never to look into the Rebbe’s eyes again, aside from at farbrengens.

Later that day, at his first farbrengen, the Rebbe smiled directly at him, giving him the opposite feeling of the fear he felt earlier that day.
