After Breach of Modesty, Wedding Halls Shut Down

Following incidents of significant breach of modesty at Kfar Chabad wedding halls, Kfar Chabad’s rov, Harav Meir Ashkenazi, ordered their closure until a solution is in place. Weddings that have already been booked will be allowed to proceed, provided the families place a deposit to commit to standards of halacha and tznius.

In a dramatic development, Kfar Chabad’s rov, Harav Meir Ashkenazi, announced the immediate closure of the two wedding halls located on the Beis Rivka campus in Kfar Chabad Beis.

The decision comes in response to several recent events held at the halls that, according to the announcement, “bordered on a complete breach of tznius standards.” Citing serious violations of community norms, Rabbi Ashkenazi stated that the halls will remain closed until further notice.

Weddings that have already been booked will be allowed to proceed, provided the families place a deposit and commit to ensuring that the event fully adheres to the expected standards of halacha and tznius. However, no new bookings will be accepted until a solution is reached.

With the Three Weeks beginning this Sunday, 17 Tammuz – when weddings are not held – there is hope that a solution can be reached to put proper safeguards in place, allowing the halls to reopen and resume regular use immediately afterward, in full compliance with halachic and communal standards.

We appreciate your feedback. If you have any additional information to contribute to this article, it will be added below.

  1. At the moment a couple starts their life together to build a bayis neeman bYisroel, it is so important that they do so to the highest standards of halacha.
We have seen breakdowns in Crown Heights as well.
This is an appeal to our rabbonim to strengthen tznius in our Simchal Halls as well

  2. I’ve been at a wedding in OT where extremely inappropriate music was played and if only we had someone with the backbone who would’ve shut it down

  3. Great to see a rov take real achrayus for the standards in his community. If only all rabbonim would have his strength.

  4. Agreed..but why only in simcha halls.
Why not on the crises of tzius in general!
Everyone does as they please free country…

    We have moisdos…
If you want to be part of our moisdos like in an army there are rules and regulations!!!

This is not a free for all…where are we going as a community.
    It is a real crises..
Lives aren’t happier or better if one does not adhere to tznius dress or hanhoga in general.

When will we become firmer. Not just in private halls but in our schools shuls minyonim..vchulu.
It breaks my heart to watch this lack of sensitivity to our real community.

Aibishter have rachmonis and help us get a grip on this disease!!!

    Rachamim rabim we need !

  5. It’s especially disturbing when those who work in our mosdos are not tzniusdik. How in the world to our children stand a chance if their own teachers and principals are sloppy in their tznius?

  6. B”H for a Rov who is ready to stand up for Halacha. How many countless times did the Rebbe speak about Tznius (including Parshas Balak — mah tovu oholecha goes on camps and bungalows)?

The fact is that in my opinion, this is the number one nisayon of Lubavitch in today’s day. I have many friends from Chassidishe communities who actually truly respect and love Lubavitche and Chabad chassidus, but they simply cannot bring their kids to Crown Heights to expose them to the lack of tznius in our streets. There are many who would come closer to Chabad chassidus if not for this spiritual pandemic.

I think this is the #1 issue that needs to be addressed in Anash, and I believe the Brachos for gashmiyus will follow.

We are being tested with this because: “כל הגדול מחברו יצרו גדול הימנו”
“Whoever is greater than his fellow, his evil inclination is greater than his.”

  7. Our generation is the Reincarnation of the דור המדבר . Pinchus saved them , todays Chumash – ולא כליתי – . So desperately do we need a Pinchus to finish the job בחסד וברחמים Moshiach Now !
