Twenty five students from Beis Menachem Youth Development Program (“Wilkes-Barre”) of the Poconos enjoyed an action-packed Shabbaton in Miami, arranged by the bochurim shluchim to the yeshiva.
The trip was a reward for the students who had excelled in the mivtza held by the shluchim as a preparation for Yud Alef Nissan, a gift to the Rebbe for his 119th birthday. For just under a month, the students took part in the mivtza, which began with a cocoa club in the morning and continued all the way to Krias Shema before sleeping.
On Thursday of Shabbos Behar-Bechukosai, the 25 students packed up to head to Florida for a Shabbaton. The trip began on the right foot with the students finding a Yid on the plane and putting on tefillin with him.
Arriving in Florida, the group headed to a hotel where they spent the night. The next morning, the boys woke up and headed out on a boating trip and tour where they got to see a wide variety of sea life that can only be seen in that area.
Shabbos was spent at Chabad of South Dade, where the boys farbrenged with father and son Rabbi Yakov and Getzy Fellig.
On Motzei Shabbos, the shluchim treated the boys out to a grand pizza party and another farbrengen with the shluchim. Sunday morning the boys headed out to go kayaking, heading to a small island in middle of the ocean before turning around and getting ready to head out.
On their way back, the group stopped by a gas station for mincha, where they met a local Yid. The shluchim offered him the chance to put on tefillin, and he gladly agreed, and even brought the boys on his boat for another mini-trip!
The day concluded with yet another farbrengen, after which the boys headed for a well-deserved rest.
On Monday, the boys woke up early to daven, eat and head to the airport, where they traveled back to New York, but not before finding another few Yidden to put on tefillin with, including the pilot of the flight!
