A number of safety changes have begun being implemented in the main shul of 770 Eastern Parkway following the recent tragic events in Meron and Karlin-Stolin.

In the past weeks, two deadly events in Eretz Yisroel, which led to 47 deaths and dozens of injuries, have led many shuls around the world to enhance their safety measures, and the main shul at 770 is no exception.

On Friday, the gabboyim hung up signs by the front and back entrances declaring that the area must be kept clear, and any items left in the walkways will be discarded without prior notice.

“There are many people who feel that the walkways are a good place to store suitcases or scooters as they daven, causing a potential safety hazard,” gabbai Rabbi Yosef Losh told Anash.org. “We will be strictly enforcing the new rule and not allowing anything in the entrances.”

770 manager Rabbi Yosef Kratz told Anash.org that the shul had actually begun implementing changes earlier this year, but the recent tragedies roused them to implement them faster.

“In Shevat of this year, the gabboyim forbade organizations and individuals from setting up tables in 770, making sure the exits remained clear. The new rules will also make it clear that objects can not be left there either,” he said.

“In addition, the shul will be cracking down on pirated bleachers, which in contrast to the ones built with the approval of the gabboyim, are not always safe, and can lead to injuries,” he said.
