More than 4,300 supporters worldwide joined Chabad of Kazakhstan’s annual campaign marking the yahrzeit of the Rebbe’s father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, on Chof Av. Dedicated to the memory of the revered gaon, chossid, and mekubal who was exiled to Kazakhstan for his commitment to spreading Judaism, the campaign has drawn unprecedented global participation.
Already approaching the one-million-dollar milestone, the initiative is fueling a powerful Jewish revival throughout Kazakhstan, the land where Rabbi Levi Yitzchak endured exile, inspired generations, and where he is laid to rest.
Rabbi Yeshaya Cohen, Chief Rabbi and Head Shliach of Kazakhstan, reflected on the campaign’s success:
“It is profoundly moving to witness thousands of donors from around the globe rallying in support of the Jewish community in Kazakhstan, the very land of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak’s exile. There is no doubt that this brings the Rebbe immense nachas. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every donor, to the dedicated fundraisers who worked tirelessly day and night, and to the professional team who managed this campaign with such skill. Each participant is a true partner in the mission Rabbi Levi Yitzchak began over 81 years ago, a mission that continues today through the Rebbe’s shluchim.”
In a country where not long ago Jews were afraid to walk proudly in public, and where a Torah class, a bris milah, or even communal tefilos could pose real danger, there is today a vibrant Jewish renaissance. The Rebbe’s shluchim are building communities, teaching Torah, and empowering every Jew to live joyfully connected to their heritage.
“At farbrengens,” Rabbi Cohen shared, “the Rebbe would invite those who had assisted his father during exile to join him on the bimah and say l’chaim, emphasizing that his father’s suffering was his own personal matter. The Rebbe himself placed great importance on honoring his father, encouraging the publication of his writings and the establishment of his resting place in Alma Ata. How much more so must we continue his legacy here, in the very place where Rabbi Levi Yitzchak labored with tears.”
The shluchim in Kazakhstan care for Rabbi Levi Yitzchak’s ohel, welcome the thousands of visitors who come to daven there, and continue to carry forward his spiritual legacy. Supporters of this campaign are true partners in that mission. As the Rebbe once remarked:
“No matter how much I give, it will never be enough to repay what I personally owe in honoring my father.”
Already, many participants in the campaign have shared remarkable stories of blessings and miracles in its merit.
Today, 10 Chabad centers operate in 7 cities across Kazakhstan, led by the central Chabad House located beside the Ohel in Alma Ata. Thanks to the generosity of donors, these centers are set to expand their activities, reaching even more Jews in towns and villages throughout the country.
“Every donation kindles another flame and brightens another Jewish soul,” said Rabbi Cohen. “The zechus of this campaign will surely stand by the donors and their families. And with this unity, may we march together toward the coming of Moshiach—immediately.”
The raffle for a pair of tickets to the Ohel in Alma Ata will be held, G-d willing, on Sunday, 6 Tishrei, the yahrzeit of Rebbetzin Chana, the Rebbe’s mother.
