Choshen Mishpat Renaissance continues its series with Rabbi Yehoshua Yaffe as the new maggid shiur. 

Rabbi Yehoshua Yaffe was raised on shlichus in Guilford, CT. He learned in the yeshivos of New Haven, Manchester, Migdal Ha-Emek, and Los Angeles. He is currently a member of the Kollel of New Haven.

We thank Rabbi Berel Politiko for his dedication to Choshen Mishpat Renaissance. We wish him much success in his new role as a more hora’ah for Bais Hora’ah Chabad.

Both in Halacha and American law, when property is damaged, there are two main measures of damages:

1. Cost of Repair: The cost to restore the property to its pre-damage condition.

2. Diminution in Value (Resale Value): The difference between the property’s fair market value before and after the damage.

In this shiur, Rabbi Yehoshua Yaffe will discuss the different opinions in Halacha on this matter and examine the concepts underlying the different viewpoints.
