Yerushalayim Unites for Monumental Rambam Siyum
Rabbonim, rebbes, community leaders, and a large crowd attended the Central Rambam Siyum of Yerushalayim held in the 770 Chabad center in Ramat Shlomo. The main address was delivered by Harav Daniel Alter, rosh yeshiva of Pnei Menachem.
A powerful event took place Motzaei Shabbos parshas Yisro at the event hall of the Chabad center at 770 Ramat Shlomo – the Central Rambam Siyum of Yerushalayim, attended by rabbonim, rebbes, community leaders, and a large crowd.
The evening was opened and masterfully hosted in the finest tradition by Rabbi Naftali HaKohen Roth, chairman of Tze’irei Agudas Chabad of Yerushalayim, who leads the organization of this central event with remarkable dedication and effort.
In his enthusiastic opening remarks, Rabbi Roth spoke about the significance of the Rambam learning takana, which unites and brings together all segments of the Jewish people: men, women, and children, from every background and community.
Following the opening remarks, Rabbi Yaakov Halperin, the Rebbe’s shliach and Chabad’s representative at the Jerusalem Municipality, was invited to speak. Rabbi Halperin opened with the recitation of the Rebbe’s chapter of Tehillim and delivered heartfelt words of bracha. He spoke about the great zechus of Achdus Yisroel through the study of Rambam. Rabbi Halperin, who works throughout the year on behalf of Tze’irei Agudas Chabad, the shluchim, and Chabad institutions in Jerusalem – and especially on behalf of this central event – was given special recognition when Rabbi Roth warmly thanked him for his significant assistance.
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Havlin, rav of the Chabad community in Ramat Shlomo, who contributed greatly to the success of the event, was then honored with completing the forty-fifth cycle. In his remarks, he encouraged and strengthened the Rambam learners, emphasized the importance of consistency in daily study, and expressed bracha on the zechus of the Ramat Shlomo community to host this central event.
Hagaon Rabbi Reuven Elbaz, rosh of the Ohr HaChaim institutions, was honored to open the forty-sixth cycle. He spoke about the sanctity of beginning anew and the responsibility to continue learning with consistency and perseverance. Rabbi Elbaz spoke with great warmth and enthusiasm about the extraordinary importance of this takana and about the gift the world received through the Chabad movement – and in particular through the Rebbe’s takana of daily Rambam study.
The central address was delivered by Hagaon Harav Daniel Alter, rosh yeshiva of Pnei Menachem, who spoke in depth about the meaning of the Rambam learning takana, the power of unity it embodies, and the ability of daily halacha study to influence the practical lives of every Jew.
The Rebbe of Stropkov delivered enthusiastic remarks, strengthening the Rambam learners and highlighting the special ma’ala of a fixed daily learning program shared across all of Klal Yisroel, and the great nachas ruach it brings Above.
A particularly moving moment came when a young boy, Meir Poziloff, completed Sefer HaMitzvos, a sight that swept the crowd and vividly illustrated how the Rambam takana unites even the youngest members of our community.
Rabbi Shaul Silam, rav of the Chabad community in Gilo, shared an original chiddush from his Rambam study and illustrated how delving into the Rambam’s words illuminates the everyday life of a Jew.
Hagaon Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, rosh yeshiva of Merkaz HaRav, spoke about the special connection between Rambam study and the yeshiva world and iyun learning, and encouraged the community of learners to continue with hasmada from a place of inner connection and ahavas Torah. Rabbi Shapira was accompanied by his friend, the Rebbe’s shliach, Rabbi Daniel Calev.
Addresses were then delivered by the Rebbe’s shluchim: Rabbi Shalom Ber Marzel, the Rebbe’s shliach in the Nachlaos neighborhood; Rabbi Shneur Cohen, the Rebbe’s shliach and rav of the Chabad community in Har Choma, who encouraged the community to join the regular daily learning; and Rabbi Boruch Chadad, the Rebbe’s shliach and rav of the Chabad community in Malcha, who concluded the event with inspiring closing remarks.
The chassidishe singer R’ Simche Friedman provided beautiful musical accompaniment throughout the evening, together with keyboardist R’ Avremi Cohen, filling the hall with niggunim and leading hours of joyful singing and dancing.
A festive Melaveh Malka seudah was served at beautifully arranged tables, and the atmosphere was uplifting, joyous, and filled with kedusha.
So concluded another powerful evening of Tze’irei Agudas Chabad of Jerusalem, celebrated in grand fashion in accordance with the directive and for the nachas ruach of the Rebbe.
The event was successfully organized and produced by Rabbi Noam Roth, director of Tze’irei Agudas Chabad of Jerusalem, and Rabbi Dubi Segal, an activist from the Chabad community of Ramat Shlomo.
