World-renowned speaker and mashpia Rav Moshe Weinberger, the founding rav of Congregation Aish Kodesh in Woodmere, NY, and mashpia at Yeshiva University, led a group of over 50 members of his community on a visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel on Chof-Daled Teves, the yahrtzeit of the Alter Rebbe, where they held a grand farbrengen.

The farbrengen, held in grand style at one of the houses near the Ohel, was accompanied by music and dancing, with musician Yossi Cohen uplifting the crowd with both moving and spirited niggunim.

Prior to the farbrengen, the large group wrote panim and entered the Ohel to daven, where they sang the niggunim of the Alter Rebbe.

At the farbrengen after their visit, Rabbi Weinberger spoke about the Ohel as a place of deep connection to the Rebbe, where many have poured out their hearts and seen numerous issues resolved.

He discussed the unique integration of the nigleh and nistar aspects of Torah, explaining how the Baal Shem Tov foresaw the Alter Rebbe illuminating the world with these two lights through the Shulchan Aruch and the Tanya. He also connected this to the Rambam’s vision of Moshiach, who brings together these same two dimensions.

Rabbi Weinberger explained the Alter Rebbe’s unique contribution in clarifying emunah pshutah – simple faith – in a clear and accessible way, making it understandable that Hashem is the most obvious reality.

He also spoke about the Frierdiker Rebbe’s courageous decision to remain in Communist Russia despite the danger, establishing underground yeshivos and mikvaos, and how this level of dedication is required for every single Jew.

He concluded by speaking about niggunim, which have the power to “straighten out the heart” and dissolve intellectual questions.
