While ballistic missiles from Iran were flying overhead, a moving and unforgettable Pidyon Haben was held for baby Menachem Mendel Ezagui, son of Rabbi Eliyahu and Chaya Mushka Ezagui.
The ceremony took place in a reinforced underground shelter in the Anash community of Nachlas Har Chabad. As sirens and fear filled the air, so did emunah and mesirus nefesh.
“Specifically in such moments,” Rabbi Ezagui shared, “the mitzvah of Pidyon Haben, symbolizing how we are Hashem’s firstborn, ‘Bni bechori Yisroel,’ takes on added meaning. Deep underground, we fulfill Hashem’s command, and in that merit, may we all be redeemed.”
He added, “May this holy act bring about the ultimate redemption, when Hashem will redeem His children from this exile—teikef u’miyad mamash.”
