Rabbi Menachem Mendel Amar, the well-known baal menagen behind the ga’aguim project, has released a heartfelt rendition of the moving niggun known as “the niggun of Reb Zalman Zaltapolski”.

Rabbi Amar has, to date, released over 80 traditional Lubavitcher niggunim, carefully restored and recorded in their original form, with more than one million plays across streaming platforms.

In Sefer HaNiggunim it is brought that this niggun gives faithful expression to the yearning and longing of the soul hidden in the depths of the heart. It awakens memories of bright and pleasant days in a wondrous vision of G-dliness.

The Frierdiker Rebbe related that three years after the histalkus of the Rebbe Maharash, the Rebbe Rashab met the chossid R’ Chaim Shlomo Zalman Zaltapolski. He saw him sitting alone on a bench, between the seashore and the thick forest, singing this niggun for many hours, immersed in his thoughts.

The Rebbe Rashab then remarked: “On the face of R’ Zalman, one could see the life of yearning of a chossid who had lost his Rebbe in the physical sense a few years earlier. Yet in his spiritual vision, his Rebbe stood before him alive and present.”

This niggun is number 60 in Sefer HaNiggunim.
