Anash.org feature: A weekly shiur by Dayan Levi Yitzchok Raskin, Rov of Anash in London, explores interesting Torah questions and halachic dilemmas.
The following issues are discussed by Rabbi Raskin in this week’s episode:
- In Tehillim #20 there is the phrase המה כרעו ונפלו; in #27 there is the phrase המה כשלו ונפלו. Why the difference? [1]
- May rice-paper be used on Shabbos? [2] (This paper is used for food presentation, and involves soaking the sheets in water so that they become flexible).
- For the Pruzbul to be effective, the borrower has to own land. 1) Why is this necessary; 2) Does rented land count for this purpose? Link
- Is it only the Baal Tokeah who recites the יהי רצון prior to Tekias Shofar? [4]
- Likewise, regarding the viduy between the stanzas of Tekios? [5]
- For the daily additional 3 chapters of Tehillim over Elul thru YK, the guidance for one who missed is to say today’s 3 tehillim first, and then catch up what he missed. [6] Is there not an advantage in keeping to the original sequence?
- I am moving house right after Yomtov. May I pack boxes during Chol HaMoed? [7]
- We’re the only Shul in town. In addition to the regular Shul-comers, there are many more Jews in town, who aren’t Shabbos-observant yet. If we bring in Shabbos early, it becomes Shabbos for them too. So, we’re causing extra Chilul Shabbos. Is that a reason not to have an early Kabbolas Shabbos? [8]
- Use of pepper or lemon in Rosh HaShono foods: [9]
