Anash.org feature: A weekly shiur by Dayan Levi Yitzchok Raskin, Rov of Anash in London, explores interesting Torah questions and halachic dilemmas.
The following issues are discussed by Rabbi Raskin in this week’s episode:
- We kiss the Tzitzis at לעד קיימת and at ונחמדים לעד, and then release them. Why? [1]
- May Maaser money be used to pay for the checking of Tefilin & Mezuzos? [2]
- A Jewish man owes me money. He’s not going to abide by a Beis Din. May I threaten him physically in order to get him to pay his debt? [3]
- A thread of my Tzitzis is holding on a single strand. If it snaps, I will have to redo that corner entirely. Can I save it now? [4]
- I am past ברוך שאמר and I realise that the latest time for Shema is withing the next few minutes. Should I race ahead; skip a few paragraphs; interrupt immediately? [5]
- Just after removing my Tefilin after Shacharis, I realised that I’d missed Maariv last night. Should I repeat the Shmone Esrei now? [6]
- May we move house during Chol HaMoed? [7]
- One side of my Succah is the wall of my house, but it is under an overhang. Does that wall count as a wall of the Succah? [8]
- A young man was married for a short while, but – sadly – divorced. May he stop wearing a Tallis for Davening; may he stop wearing a Kapote on Shabbos? [9]
- Plastic tablecloth on a roll, is it permitted on Shabbos to tear off a length that would suit my needs? [10]
