Upscale Moscow Suburb Welcomes New Torah

Chabad of the upscale village of Novi Veshki, led by shliach Rabbi Zalman Shimon Deren, celebrated a joyous Hachnasas Sefer Torah, marking a milestone in the vibrant growth of Jewish life across Russia’s suburban communities.

Significant progress can be seen in the noticeable development of Jewish communities in the many neighborhoods of Moscow, the capital of Russia, as new communities and Chabad Houses for thousands of Jews are being built up. Under the guidance and constant monitoring of the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar, who constantly strives to reach every Jew in Russia, many means are invested every day, especially in preparation for the Jewish holidays and special dates.

At the same time, hundreds and thousands of residents are choosing to move to new neighborhoods in the suburbs surrounding the capital, to escape the noise and bustle of the busy metropolis for a slower pace of life.

“Novi Veshki” is one such example. A prestigious village that was built from the ground up and already contains many hundreds of beautiful, elegant houses with green areas surrounded by lakes, forests, and orchards. Along with the development and expansion of its Jewish residents came the need to open their own community and shul. In response to this request, the Chief Rabbi sent Rabbi Zalman Shimon HaKohen Deren, who serves on a daily basis as the secretary of the Chief Rabbinate of Russia and the inspector of mikvaos throughout Russia.

Great joy enveloped the community upon hearing that a new Sefer Torah is being donated by the Yakubov family. Distinguished members of the community, they dedicated a most exquisite Sefer Torah, with beautiful accessories, in memory of their beloved parents. The community, which has minyanim, Torah classes, holiday events and youth activities, serves the neighborhood’s many Jews throughout the year.

The celebration, held in the shul hall, was skillfully led by the family’s friend, the shaliach Rabbi Avraham Elimelech Gedzh, who invited the Chief Rabbi Shlita to finish writing the Sefer Torah. After Divrei Torah and blessings, he presented their sons Mr. David and Mr. Moshe with a prestigious certificate along with a dollar and blessings from the Lubavitcher Rebbe, on behalf of the charitable organizations in Moscow, which the Yakubov family supports regularly.

During the seudas mitzva, the guests were also addressed by the Rabbi of the Bolshaya Bronaya shul, Rabbi Yitzhak HaKohen Kogan, the Mara De’asra Rabbi Zalman Shimon Deren, and many distinguished friends and community members.
