On Sunday evening, Rockland County achieved a historic milestone with the lighting of a towering menorah. Meticulously crafted by Stellar Productions with skill and passion, this magnificent structure was illuminated during a Grand Unity Menorah Lighting ceremony honoring the Sydney Kedoshim.
The event was organized by Merkaz Ufaratzta Lubavitch under the leadership of Rabbi Dovid Weber, the Rebbe’s shliach and Rav of BMML of Pomona, in collaboration with the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE) of Rockland under the leadership of Rabbi Simcha Werner, the Rebbe’s first shliach to Rockland County.
Internationally renowned singer Lipa Schmeltzer conducted the lighting, ascending a Rockland Fire Department ladder truck before performing an inspiring set of Chanuka songs. Adding to the excitement, delicious donuts were distributed, and a fire juggler captivated children and adults alike with incredible fire performances, creating a truly memorable experience for all.
Despite subfreezing temperatures, hundreds gathered in a powerful show of Jewish unity and resilience. Elected officials spoke on the importance of spreading light in darkness.
Security for the event was extensive, with Ramapo Police providing a strong presence throughout the evening, assisted by Chaverim of Rockland volunteers to ensure the safety of the large crowd.
