Tonight: Kingsbrook Shul Rallies to Reopen with Menorah Lighting
With the shul at Kingsbrook closed since Covid, the Crown Heights community will gather tonight outside Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center for a public Chanukah menorah lighting in support of reopening the shul.
With the shul at Kingsbrook closed since Covid, the Crown Heights community will gather tonight outside Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center for a public Chanukah menorah lighting in support of reopening the shul.
The shul has recently filed a lawsuit to have it reopened. Organizers are calling on the community to join and support the shul’s efforts, stressing that community support is crucial to the shul’s success.
The event, titled A Century of Light, marks 100 years of Jewish history connected to Kingsbrook and 75 years since the synagogue was built. While the community remains barred from the shul, organizers say they will not let the light go out.
The menorah lighting will take place tonight, Wednesday, the fourth candle of Chanukah, December 17, 27 Kislev, at 6:00 PM, at the corner of Rutland Road and East 49th Street.
The event will include music, latkes, and donuts.
