Today: Alumni Zoom to Honor New Haven Rosh Yeshiva

Tonight at 8:30: The Kalmenson Family invites all students of longtime Rosh Yeshiva of New Haven, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Kalmenson, to join a special Zoom session in his memory.

The Kalmenson Family invites all students of longtime Rosh Yeshiva of the Lubavitch Yeshiva of New Haven and author of the seforim Reshimos Shiurim on Gemara, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Kalmenson, to join a special Zoom session in his memory.

Rabbi Kalmenson, who passed away suddenly on the first day of Rosh Hashanah, was called upon by the hanhala of 770 in 5737 (1977) to establish a yeshiva in New Haven. After receiving the Rebbe’s bracha, he arrived in Cheshvan 5738 together with a group of talmidim.

Generations of talmidim passed through his shiurim, guided by his clarity in learning and imbued with his chassidishe warmth. Under his leadership, the yeshiva expanded from being a yeshiva for talmidim to a mesivta and a zal.

At the Zoom session, stories shared will, be’ezras Hashem, be collected and included in a publication about Rabbi Kalmenson’s life. The session will feature special remarks by Rabbi Ezra Shochet, Rosh Yeshivah of Ohr Elchonon Chabad in Los Angeles.

The Zoom session will take place today, Thursday, at 8:30 PM EST. Participants can join here or by using Zoom ID 878 0748 1385 with the passcode 100852.

The Shloshim for Rabbi Kalmenson will take place on Monday, 5 Cheshvan 5786 (October 27) at the Lubavitch-Yeshiva Gedola Beis Dovid Shlomo, 292 Norton Street, New Haven, Connecticut, where Rabbi Kalmenson dedicated his life. Doors open at 7:30 PM, with the program beginning at 8:00 PM.
