Through Distance and Danger, Shluchim Gathered for Unity Shabbos

The shluchim and their families from across Ukraine enjoyed a weekend packed with shiurim, shlichus workshops, women’s seminars, children’s activities, festive meals, and farbrengens. Highlights included a siyum of a Sefer Torah for Nikolayev, a surprise visit from Dnipro’s deputy mayor, and more, making it a historic and unforgettable weekend.

The Rebbe’s shluchim from across Ukraine, along with their families, gathered in Dnipro for a historic and festive Shabbos this past week.

Despite long distances, challenging weather, and security concerns, shluchim traveled from Kyiv, Kharkov, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Kremenchuk, Chernivtsi, Kryvyi Rih, Mykolaiv, and more – some enduring journeys of over 18 hours – to join under one roof.

From the moment they arrived at the hotel, the unique atmosphere of the gathering was palpable. The program was rich and varied, including shiurim in Chassidus, shlichus workshops and sessions, women’s seminars, children’s activities, and festive meals and farbrengens.

Thursday afternoon featured a siyum of a Sefer Torah for the Jewish community in Nikolayev, led by Rabbi Sholom Dovber Gottlieb. Thursday evening included a special security workshop with the Ukrainian security chief and representatives from Chabad’s CWA emergency network.

Shluchim also visited an educational fair organized by JRNU and the thriving “Or Avner” school network, showcasing programs for all ages – from Sunday schools and afternoon programs to kindergartens, youth clubs, student activities, and humanitarian work.

Rabbi Shlomo Neeman, the network director, provided detailed guidance on all initiatives. Meanwhile, the children of the shluchim enjoyed a dedicated camp featuring trips, activities, and attractions.

Friday night included a central festive meal with veteran shluchim and mashpiim, followed by a farbrengen that continued late into the night. A surprise visit from Dnipro’s deputy mayor honored the Rebbe’s shluchim, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The special weekend concluded with a celebratory Melaveh Malka on Motzei Shabbos, featuring an engaging program for all participants.

Rabbi Shmuel Kamintzky, who oversaw every detail to ensure the comfort of all shluchim, expressed his personal gratitude to JRNU, Rabbi Shlomo Peles, and the leadership of the Former Soviet Union Kehillos Association for their dedication in making the Shabbos a success and for their ongoing support of shlichus in Ukraine.
