‘This Is Not Normal!’ Kingston Women Moved by $2 Clothing Sale
On the Sunday following Purim, the doors of the Shul opened to a steady flow of women from across the community. Racks were filled with skirts and dresses, while tables were lined with tops, tees, and children’s outfits. In total, over 1000 items were made available—each priced at just two dollars.
On the Sunday following Purim, under clear skies and bright sunshine, the doors of the Shul opened to a steady flow of women from across the community. Inside, they found something both practical and uplifting: an opportunity to shop for beautiful Pesach clothing for their families without the financial strain.
Racks were filled with skirts and dresses, while tables were lined with tops, tees, and children’s outfits. In total, over a thousand items were made available, each priced at just two dollars.
This initiative was made possible by Tomchei Shabbos of Kingston, whose efforts ensured that families could prepare for Yom Tov with dignity and ease. Through careful sourcing and coordination, the organization transformed what is often a stressful expense into an accessible and even enjoyable experience.
The project was led by R’ Moishe and Devoiry Segal, whose dedication helped bring the vision to life. Their leadership, combined with the tireless efforts of local volunteers, made the event possible. Community members worked late into the night organizing, hanging, and preparing each item with care.
Due to the overwhelming response, an additional sale was held the following Sunday, offering even more options, including Shabbos dresses, rompers, skirts, tees, rain boots, and boys’ clothing.
Beyond the clothing itself, the sale reflected something deeper: a strong sense of unity and shared responsibility. Families were able to prepare for Pesach with less financial pressure, supported by a community that looks out for one another.
Tomchei Shabbos of Kingston continues to expand its efforts to assist families throughout Kingston and the greater NEPA area. Contributions help sustain future food and clothing distributions and ensure that this support remains available to those who need it.

The impact of the sale was immediately felt throughout the community. One attendee shared:
Devoiry, there are actually not enough words to thank you for making a clothing sale happen. Besides for being a literal tremendous help financially, it was done in such a way, that we felt like we were shopping- the tables were beautifully prepared, fancy hangers, organized, and everyone was so helpful- helping others with matching a top, finding the right size…Hashem should bentch you and everyone involved, with gezunt, lots of parnossa, and nachas from yourself, and all those around you. Wishing you a kosher un freilechen pesach.
