The Rebbe’s Solution to Peace in Israel Presented on Capitol Hill

Last Tuesday, a group of congressmen and staffers gathered for a briefing on the Jewish perspective on the path to peace in Israel, in a session entitled “How America Can Support Lasting Peace in the Middle East.”

In response to the ongoing conflict in Israel, United States Representative Nick LaLota (R-NY-1) invited Rabbi Mendel Teldon of Chabad of Commack, New York, to the United States Capitol to present the Jewish perspective on attaining peace in Israel. Working in collaboration with JEM’s Enduring Peace project, Teldon delivered a distinctively crafted class on Torah’s roadmap to peace, as articulated by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson.

In a particularly notable exchange, Teldon emphasized that the sole basis of the Jewish right to Israel is God’s gift of the land to the Jewish people—a cornerstone of the Rebbe’s approach. Intrigued by this assertion, the Congressman asked Rabbi Teldon to reiterate, “Where can Muslims, Christians, and Jews can find that premise, in a source relied on by them, that substantiates that account?”

Teldon’s response resonated strongly with the policymakers. He pointed to the Bible—“recognized by over four billion people around the world,” which declares numerous times that Israel was divinely gifted to the Jewish people. The congressman acknowledged the clarity of this explanation as the presentation continued.

While Israel’s representatives have commonly employed various political or historical narratives to support the Jewish right to Israel, the Rebbe argues that these explanations consistently fall short to the counterarguments, overlooking the heart of the matter. In numerous correspondence and public addresses, the Rebbe articulated fiercely that the Bible is the very deed of the Jewish people’s connection to the land, and that this truth is the only effective claim to Jewish ownership.

The course materials used by Teldon were a result of a collaboration between the Jewish Educational Media (JEM)’s Enduring Peace and the Jewish Learning Institute (JLI). “How Israel Wins,” a unique multimedia seminar, outlines the Rebbe’s guidance on how Israel can achieve security, and has been offered in over two hundred and fifty Jewish communities worldwide to date.

Enduring Peace endeavors to bring Torah’s guidance for lasting peace in Israel—as articulated by the Rebbe—into the world’s consciousness. In addition to producing films and materials that teach the straightforward and compassionate approach, the project aims to empower communal leaders and organizations in sharing this crucial message further.
