The Rebbe Asked: Give Before Shabbos!

In years when Chof Av fell out on Shabbos, the Rebbe encouraged chassidim to donate before Shabbos to the campaign honoring his father, and gave a special Yasher Koach to those who did so.

“A special thanks to all those who saved themselves the effort and sent their contributions to the 20th of Av campaign before Shabbos, or at the latest on Motzaei Shabbos or during Sunday.” (The Rebbe, Shabbos Chof Av, 5744)

On years when Chof Av fell out on Shabbos, such as this year, the Rebbe would encourage chassidim to donate to the campaign of Chof Av prior to Shabbos, and offer a special Yasher Koach to those who did so.

“From this, we can also learn regarding a yahrzeit that falls on Shabbos. It is customary to give charity on the yahrzeit day…and one might wonder whether to advance the custom to Friday or postpone it to Sunday… Since the pledge was initially made in a manner that aligns closely with the teaching of our sages, ‘When a mitzvah comes to your hand, do not delay it,’ it is appropriate to give the charity on Friday, thereby advancing the performance of the mitzvah.” (The Rebbe, Shabbos Chof Av, 5727)

This year, as we mark 80 years since the passing of Harav Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, father of the Rebbe, it is an especially auspicious time to donate to the Chof Av campaign. The Rebbe offered incredible brachos each year to those who donated to the campaign, and surely continues to do so.

The campaign supports the work of the shluchim in Kazakhstan, the country where the baal hilula spent his final years, and where he was buried. This year, they are also marking the milestone of 30 years since their arrival in the country to continue the holy work of Harav Levi Yitzchok.

So, even though Friday is a busy day, make sure to take the time to donate to the Chof Av campaign, thus fulfilling the Rebbe’s request to honor the memory of his father.

After all, who amongst us wouldn’t want to receive the Rebbe’s “Yasher Koach,” along with his tremendous brachos?

Donate now and receive the Rebbe’s brachos!
