This year, Ateres Chaya Mushka of Crown Heights offered a unique and inspiring summer experience for the girls of their school and the wider community. Guided by the Rebbe’s teachings, the camp combined rigorous learning with exciting activities, creating a joyful, meaningful environment full of warmth, purpose, and true connection.
The focus of the camp was to inspire each girl to see herself as a true bas melech – a royal daughter and princess of Hashem – walking in the ways of the Rebbe and Rebbetzin with kindness, humility, and tznius. Each morning began with lively dancing and the camp anthem, proudly affirming their identity. Every day was also infused with guidance from the daily Hayom Yom, setting the tone and direction for the campers.
“At first, I wasn’t planning on running the camp this year; it felt overwhelming,” says Principal Mrs. Mina Leah Levine. “Then I came across a sicha where the Rebbe teaches that even when something seems optional, we can learn from Moshe sending the meraglim and do it anyway. The Rebbe even gives the example of a principal who feels satisfied with a full year of chinuch and doesn’t think summer camp is necessary. The message was incredibly clear, and when the Rebbe asks, we listen.”
The camp was an unbelievable success, with incredible feedback from both campers and parents:
“We hope the camp continues next summer! The opportunity to keep learning in a happy summer atmosphere is wonderful. [My daughter] said, ‘I hardly realize I’m learning.’”
“It was amazing to see how much effort went into the learning even in summer camp. The girls and parents are truly lucky! ____ was so happy to come every day. It’s a very special school, and the care and love for each student are obvious.”
“A huge thank you for the amazing camp! My girls went off happily every morning and returned full of excitement and content. It was clear how much thought and effort went into every detail … it was an unforgettable summer!”
“My daughter ___ had such a wonderful time – she truly enjoyed every minute. She came home so excited about Yiddishkeit like never before, proud to dress tznius, and made amazing friends.”
Throughout the summer, the girls spent many hours learning in engaging and interactive ways about Parsha, Halachos of Brachos, Geulah and Moshiach, Pirkei Avos, Chabad history, Sefer Hamitzvos, Ahavas Yisroel, and more.
Classes were led by experienced and devoted teachers – Mrs. Rivka Tamarkin (Laufer), Mrs. Chana Majesky (Hendel), and Mrs. Leah Lipsker – who brought the lessons to life through cooking, crafts, drama, and song. From baking challah to blending smoothies, the girls learned which brachos to make, what to do in moments of doubt, and how Torah applies to every detail of daily life.
Additionally, each week focused on one of the Rebbeim, culminating in a guided tour of the Rebbeim exhibit at the Rebbe’s Library, led by Chief Librarian and school board member Rabbi Berel Levine. The campers had the opportunity to connect deeply with the lives and teachings of the Rebbeim.
The fun was just as rich as the learning, with trips, water activities, swimming, group competitions, singing, dancing, creativity, and more.
One particularly moving moment at camp was when the girls visited the Rebbe’s Ohel for Chof Av. While standing near the kever of Rebbetzin Chana, they met Mr. Levi Yitzchak Nimotin from Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, where Mrs. Levine’s brother and school board member Rabbi Shaya Cohen serves as the head shliach.
Mr. Nimotin shared with the girls that he was the first person ever to be named after the Rebbe’s father, following a personal request from Rebbetzin Chana. He also explained that his father was responsible for the upkeep of the Rebbe’s father’s kever.
The camp was led by a dedicated and warm team of counselors: Esther Malka Levinson, Mushka Cohen, Shterna Cohen, Chelly Liberow, Sheina Green, Sara Lipchik, Bracha Simon, and Devory Levine.
“We have the zechus to guide the Rebbe’s daughters,” says Mrs. Levine. “It’s our mission to give them the very best, spiritually and physically. The results speak for themselves: smiling girls who were excited to come each day and went home uplifted and glowing.”
