Russian security services reportedly thwarted two planned attacks against Jewish institutions in Siberia and southern Russia.
In the city of Krasnoyarsk, located in central Siberia, two individuals from Central Asian countries were arrested on suspicion of preparing an explosive device intended for the local synagogue. During a search of their hideout, authorities discovered materials for manufacturing explosives.
At the same time, a Russian citizen was detained in the city of Pyatigorsk, in the Stavropol region, after allegedly planning to throw Molotov cocktails at a Jewish community building there.
Officials said that the suspects claimed they were acting in support of Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. However, investigators believe their real intent was to incite unrest within Russia itself.
