Tefillin Campaign Honors Rosh Yeshiva Who ‘Koched’ in Mivtzoim

Besides being a towering gaon, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Kalmanson had a special devotion to putting tefillin with others. He was always seen with tefillin in hand, and he even had a daily mivtzoyim route that he went on.

The sudden passing of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Kalmanson ע״ה, the beloved pillar and crown jewel of New Haven, leaves an irreplaceable void. To his students and community, he was not only a Rosh Yeshiva but also a teacher, a guide, and someone who cared deeply about every person he met. His whole life was devoted to Torah, chinuch, and helping Yidden grow.

One thing that always stood out about Rabbi Kalmanson was his devotion to putting tefillin on others. He was always seen with tefillin in hand on his way to help someone who hadn’t yet had the chance to perform this special mitzva. He even had a daily mivtzoyim route he would go on!

The best way to honor him is to continue that mission by adding mitzvos.

This campaign is for every Jew, everywhere. Each of us can do something in his memory — a few extra minutes of learning, giving tzedakah, putting on tefillin, lighting Shabbos candles, saying a tefillah with more heart or just doing an extra act of kindness to a person you love.

Our goal is 7000 mitzvos -by the shloshim, every mitzvah adds light. Every mitzvah keeps his legacy alive. And every mitzvah truly counts.
