Igud Hamelamdim held its annual Daled Minim initiative for Chabad mechanchim and their families. Hundreds of mechanchim from schools around NY benefited from the program.
Through an arrangement with Leizer Rodal of Esrogino, Chabad mechanchim were able to purchase a high-quality set at a significant discount. The Rodal family has been dealing with esrogim for three generations, and Leizer was happy to honor our mechanchim in this way.
Director of the Igud, Rabbi Avrohom Bluming, explains that the esrog service has deeper significance as well. “Our mechanchim are the ones who transmit the taste and smell, the beauty of Torah and mitzvos, to our children. This is one small way to show them our appreciation.”
The success of a project is obvious when others follow suit. This year, an Oholei Torah rebbi introduced a similar esrog program for teachers in the school, with subsidies made possible by the parents.
In discussing the Chabad attitude towards mechanchim, Rabbi Bluming points to a exceptional quote by the Rebbe Rashab in Kuntres Umayan: “Chassidishe melamdim are the true luminaries of Yiddishe homes. They are the Avraham Avinus of every generation who spread Elokus into every home.”
Teachers were touched by the arrangement, and one teacher shared, “The constant thoughtfulness of us and our families is heartwarming and contributes to our positive energy in the classroom.”
