Shots Fired at Chabad Evening Kolel, All Are Safe
On Sunday night, shots were fired at the Chabad House in Chadera while members of the evening kolel were learning inside. Miraculously, no one was injured.
A miracle occurred on Sunday night when gunfire struck a Chabad House in Chadera, while members of the evening kolel were learning inside.
The incident took place around 9:30 PM when shots were fired from a passing vehicle near the intersection of Herzl and HaNasi Streets. One bullet pierced the Chabad building, shattering a large tempered glass window of the Beis Midrash where several chavrusos were studying as part of the evening kolel.
Rabbi Yochanan Butman, the Rebbe’s shliach to Chadera, said that Baruch Hashem, no one was hurt. “It was a clear miracle,” he said. “The Torah protects and saves. We will continue to learn, to do, and to spread light.”
Among those sitting near the window at the time was Rabbi Yossi Vekselshtein, director of Chabad institutions in the city. Following the incident, Rabbi Vekselshtein returned to the site to recite the bracha, “she’asah li nes bamakom hazeh.”
Police confirmed that the shots were fired from a moving vehicle and opened an investigation. Both criminal and other motives are being examined, and additional security forces were deployed in the area following the attack.
Despite the frightening moments, the Chabad House will resume its Torah learning the next morning as usual. “We are continuing to learn and to strengthen,” Rabbi Butman said.
Later that night, community members gathered for a Tehillim rally, expressing thanks to Hashem for the miracle and davening for continued protection for Jews everywhere.
