Fifty years after the Rebbe sent two distinct groups of shluchim to establish roots in Yerushalayim and Tzfas, the group reunited for a moving farbrengen to share memories, draw inspiration, and celebrate a half-century of impact.
This past Thursday, Yud-Alef Shevat, marked exactly fifty years since the historic day in 5736 (1976) when the Rebbe dispatched a special group of shluchim to the Holy Land. To mark this milestone, a festive and emotional reunion was held for the group.
The shluchim came with their families from across the country – from the south, the east, the north, and the Negev. A testament to the far-flung growth of the shlichus, the shluchim and their families traveled from across all four corners of Eretz Yisroel: Eilat, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Cholon, Haifa, Tverya, Yesod HaMa’aleh, Yerushalayim, Kfar Chabad, Carmiel, Migdal HaEmek, Tzfas, Kiryat Gat, Kiryat Malachi, Rishon LeTzion, Rechovot, Ramat Yishai, and Tel Aviv.
Rabbi Sholom Duchman, director of Colel Chabad, joined from overseas. They reminisced about the early days of shlichus; they spoke about the privilege – and the responsibility – of being the Rebbe’s shluchim. One spoke about a Yid who refused to put on tefillin, but when they told him on Yud Shevat that it was the special day of the Rebbe, he surprisingly rolled up his sleeve.
In honor of the event, the Igud HaShluchim produced a special teshura titled “Alai V’al Tzavari,” documenting the history of their shlichus to the Holy Land.
The event was organized by those who coordinate the annual Kinus – Rabbi Yehuda Eidelkupf and his wife.
The event left the shluchim uplifted and inspired, resolving to continue their shlichus with even greater vigor and intensity.
