Shliach Parodies $120,000 Banana

Shliach Rabbi Yisroel Bernath of Montreal created his own version of the outrageously expensive “art” to promote mivtza mezuzah.

Last week, a banana duct-taped to a wall by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan took the world by storm when it sold for $120,000. While it was on display at the Miami art exhibition Art Basel, it garnered further attention when a comedian plucked the $120,000 banana off the wall and ate it, calling it an “artistic performance.”

Countless parodies of this bizarre chain of events have been shared across the internet. Rabbi Yisroel Bernath, shliach to NDG & Loyola Campus in Montreal, was quick to join the mix with his own “Jewish Art”: a mezuzah attached to the wall with a piece of blue tape.

Many shluchim have picked up his graphic, sharing it with their communities to encourage them to buy a mezuzah of their own.
