On the eve of Chof Daled Teves, the yahrtzeit of the Alter Rebbe, a distinguished delegation of Chabad rabbanim and mashpi’im was received at the residence of the Satmar Rebbe, Rabbi Yekusiel Yehuda (Zalman Leib) Teitelbaum, in Williamsburg, New York.

The delegation included Rabbi Leibel Altein, one of the manichim of the Rebbe’s sichos, member of the Vaad L’Hafatzas Sichos, editor of and many books of chassidus, and founder of the Heichal Menachem institutions in Boro Park; Rabbi Dovid Moshe Meizlish, Av Beis Din of Shopron in Boro Park, Rosh Kollel for the study of Chassidus, and Rav and mashpia at Heichal Menachem; Rabbi Chaim Shaul Brook, director of Lahak Hanochos; Rabbi Yisrael Shimon Kalmenson, senior editor at Lahak Hanochos; and Rabbi Yisrael Zilbershtrom, a member of Lahak Hanochos.

Also present was Rabbi Yaakov Ber Teitelbaum, son of the Satmar Rebbe and Av Beis Din of Sighet in Boro Park.

The Satmar Rebbe is a direct descendant of the Alter Rebbe. During the meeting, he shared a teaching of the Alter Rebbe cited by his grandfather, the Yismach Moshe, which he had quoted in his divrei Torah this past Shabbos.

He also merited to participate in several of the Rebbe’s farbrengens during the years 5724–5725 (1964–1965). His chief gabbai, Rabbi Moshe Friedman, shared that the Satmar Rebbe studies regularly the sefarim of the Alter Rebbe, including Tanya, Likkutei Torah, and Torah Or.

The Satmar Rebbe was amazed to learn that in the five weeks between Yud-Tes Kislev and Chof Daled Teves, nearly 20,000 copies of Tanya HaShalem were sold in Williamsburg, Boro Park, Monroe, and Monsey, in addition to over 60,000 copies sold worldwide since the sefer first appeared.
