Commemorating the 123rd anniversary of the Rebbe’s birth and marking 75 years since he assumed leadership of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, S. Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has officially declared April 9, 2025, as Education and Sharing Day.

S. Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has officially declared April 9, 2025, as Education and Sharing Day, commemorating the 123rd anniversary of the Rebbe’s birth and marking 75 years since he assumed leadership of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.

In the official proclamation, Mayor Lurie recognized the Rebbe’s unwavering commitment to youth education, moral character development, and his extraordinary influence on communities around the globe. The document emphasizes the critical role education plays—not only academically but in fostering responsibility and strong moral character, inspiring people to make the world a better place.

At the meaningful ceremony held at City Hall, Rabbi Shlomo Zarchi, a Kohen, delivered the Priestly Blessing to Mayor Lurie, acknowledging and expressing gratitude for the mayor’s leadership and dedication to the values of education and community service.

Rabbi Shmulik Friedman highlighted for the mayor the significance of Education and Sharing Day, underscoring its national importance and the role it plays in encouraging cities nationwide to celebrate and emphasize moral and ethical education.

“We deeply appreciate the work that Chabad does for the community,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie. Matthew Goudeau, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Mayor’s Office also shared: “Personally, I am very inspired by your dedication to outreach, education, and strengthening Jewish connections.”

S. Francisco’s declaration is part of a proud tradition initiated locally by Mayor London Breed in 2021. It aligns with the longstanding national initiative Education Day USA, proclaimed annually by every U.S. president since Jimmy Carter.

Special appreciation goes to Rabbi Moshe Langer of Chabad of SF, who spearheaded this year’s initiative, reflecting the dedication and ongoing commitment of S. Francisco’s Shluchim to spreading Yiddishkeit and the Rebbe’s message of positivity, purpose, and community.
