This week, Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar, visited Bnei Brak, as a guest of the Mayor of the city, Rabbi Hanoch Zeibert, where he was invited to the homes of many respected rabbonim and dignitaries.
Rabbi Lazar was invited to the wedding of the daughter of Rabbi Moti Babchik, chief of staff to Minister Rabbi Yitzchak Goldknopf and a senior member of Agudath Israel. Rabbi Lazar was honored with reading the kesubah, alongside the Gerrer Rebbe, Reb Yaakov Aryeh Alter, who was mesader kedushin.
Rabbi Lazar was then invited to the residence of the leaders of the Litvishe community—the Roshei Yeshiva of the Slabodka Yeshiva, Rabbi Dov Landau, and Rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch, to discuss various current issues. The rabbonim expressed great satisfaction and admiration for what is happening with Yiddishkeit in Russia and the growing activities there.
Another Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Lazar visited, is Sefardic Rav Rabbi Meir Mazuz from the yeshiva Kisei Rachamim. They conversed for a long time, and Rabbi Mazuz shared stories about his childhood, his studies at Chabad yeshivos in his birthplace Tunis, and his visits to the Rebbe. Rabbi Mazuz asked that one of his family members be mentioned at the Rebbe’s Ohel.
Rabbi Lazar then visited Elad where he joined a large gathering of Vizhnitz Chassidim and met with Knesset Member Rabbi Yoel Ya’akov Tesler.
