The latest edition of Kovetz Lmaan Yilmedu by the Kingston Mesivta contains 240 pages with bochurim’s Torah essays, as well as a unique compilation of the Rebbe’s directives to rabbonim and shluchim on eruvin in cities.
The primary section of the Torah journal contains in-depth yet concise essays examining the Rebbeim’s halachic position on issues pertaining to city eruvin. Each essay presents the sources in a clear and easy-to-follow style so that even one who isn’t proficient in the topic can familiarize themselves with the issues.
Topics include:
- “Tzuras hapesach” (string and pole) eruv where traffic traverses the enclosure
- “Tzuras hapesach” eruv wider than 10 amos
- The status of cities without 600,000 people
- How to count the 600,000 for a reshus horabim
- Can a crooked street be a reshus horabim
- Do surrounding houses create a valid eruv (the Chazon Ish eruv)
- Lakes and parks within an eruv enclosure
- Renting rights from the mayor or utility companies
- Non-frum residents in an eruv and the challenges they present
- Enclosing a very large area with an eruv
The Lashon Kodesh essays were written by the bochurim of the Mesivta who learned Mesechta Eruvin last year. A summary of each essay is presented in the English section.
A bonus section presents the Rebbe’s directives to rabbonim and shluchim on the construction of eruvin in their cities. This collection was first published in Lashon Kodesh in a previous kovetz, and is presented here for the first time in English with additions.
