Rabbi Yona Pruss, a respected member of the Chabad community in London, England passed away on Thursday, 20 Iyar, 5783.
He was 59 years old.
R’ Yonah was raised in Crown Heights and was sent by the Rebbe on shlichus to Dnipro, Ukraine which was then still part of the Soviet Union.
He later moved to Golders Green, London where he was a respected member of the Lubavitch community. He was a very warm chassidishe Yid who would daven b’avoda and farbeng every Shabbos. Friends testified that he never went a day without learning Chassidus for at least a half hour.
Rabbi Pruss was known for his geshmak in learning and teaching Chassidus and especially the Rebbe’s ma’amorim. He would deliver regular shiurim at the Kingsley Way Beth Hamedrash which were known for its clarity and depth.
He is survived by his wife Chana (nee Vogel) and children: Sarale Notik – Riverwoods, Illinois, Mushka Druk – Kingston, PA; Baila Goldstein – Crown Heights; Mendy Pruss, Yitzchok Pruss, Tzviki Pruss – New Haven; Schneor Pruss, Koppel Pruss, Chasya Pruss, Leah Pruss; and grandchildren.
He is also survived by his father R’ Shmarya Pruss of Crown Heights and his siblings R’ Yitzchak Pruss – Crown Heights, Henya Greenberg – Los Angeles, CA, Zalman Pruss, and Chani Vogel of Monsey, NY, as well as parents in law, Rabbi Feivish and Dusya Vogel.
The levaya began in London on Motzei Shabbos, and will be continuing in New York.
The Levaya in New York will take place on Monday, passing by 770 at 9:30 am with kevura at OId Montefiore cemetery.
