Rabbi Shmuel Osher Begun, a devoted shliach in São Paulo, Brazil, who dedicated many years to Jewish education and community life, passed away over Shabbos, the 12th of Tishrei, after an extended illness.

Rabbi Shmuel Osher Begun, a devoted shliach in São Paulo, Brazil, who dedicated many years to Jewish education and community life, passed away over Shabbos, the 12th of Tishrei, after an extended illness.

He was 65 years old.

For decades, Rabbi Begun served as the principal of the Lubavitch cheder in São Paulo, where he played a central role in guiding students and strengthening the local Jewish community. Together with his wife, he welcomed many guests into their home and was deeply involved in promoting Jewish learning and values.

In recent months, he was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor, and the Chabad community offered strong support to him and his family during his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Raya (née Levenhartz), and their children: Mendy Begun (Crown Heights), Simcha Begun (Crown Heights), Mrs. Chani Feldman (Crown Heights), Dovi Begun (Miami, FL), Mrs. Etty Labkowsky (Los Angeles, CA), and Mrs. Feigy Lapidus (Argentina).

The levaya will take place on Sunday, passing by 770 at approximately 12:00 pm, with kevura near the Ohel at 1:00 pm.

Shiva will take place in Crown Heights at 501 Montgomery St., side door. Sunday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and Monday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
