R’ Yankel Wilmovsky, a beloved member of the Anash community in North Miami Beach, FL, passed away on 15 Cheshvan.

He was 69.

R’ Yankel was born in Eretz Yisroel to R’ Zushe and Faiga Wilmovsky. His father, a prominent Chabad activist in Eretz Yisroel, was known as “Reb Zushe Partisan”, recalling the years he spent during WWII fighting as a partisan against the Nazis.

At a certain point when he was a bochur, his father expressed to the Rebbe his concerns about his son’s spiritual growth. The Rebbe reassured him that he would see from his son much nachas.

As a young man, R’ Yankel was involved in a car accident, which paralyzed him and put him in a wheelchair. Despite this, he attended shul diligently, exerting great effort.

While returning from shul in his wheelchair on a rainy night, he was tragically hit by a car and hospitalized. Though he was gradually improving, he passed away on Thursday in his sleep.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, and daughter, Sara Miriam Provli (Eretz Yisroel), and by his grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings: Miriam Pariz (Lod) and R’ Levi Wilmovsky (Kfar Chabad). He was predeceased by his brother, R’ Yoske Wilmovsky a”h.

His levaya began on Thursday at Beis Menachem of North Miami Beach, Florida. Levaya will continue on Motzei Shabbos at 770 at around 7:30 pm, and continue to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah.

Shiva details to follow.

We appreciate your feedback. If you have any additional information to contribute to this article, it will be added below.

  1. I remember working for him at his pizza shop in University Circle . He was such a great person, and easy to talk to. Esther, his wife taught my special needs son the Brochot for his Bar Mitzvah,.

  2. Jerry and I are saddened to hear this news. May Esther and his heritage all be blessed with much strength and consolation. Their friendship meant a lot to our family and all their good work is remembered in the Cleveland community. I also worked with Yakov at Noah’s Ark restaurant on the Case western Reseve campus and Chabad House on Campus. He was a gentle giant. He will truly be missed.
