R’ Sholom Dovber Levine, a longtime member of the Los Angeles Anash community, passed away on Sunday, 5 Adar.

R’ Sholom Dovber Levine, a longtime member of the Los Angeles Anash community, passed away on Sunday, 5 Adar.

He was 86 years old.

Born in Russia to Rabbi Abba Halevi and Chaya Stera Levin, he was raised in Kfar Chabad. He later moved to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, he took the position of chazan in different shuls, and he was known to have a talent for niggunim.

He is survived by his wife, Tova, and their children: Matty Bryski (Agoura Hills, CA), Yisroel Levine (Oak Park, CA), Stery Zajac (Los Angeles, CA), and Sarah Brenenson (Florida).

The levayah will take place today, Sunday, beginning at 2:00 PM at CLY (356 N La Brea), followed by kevurah at 3:00 PM at Mount Olive Cemetery (7231 E. Slauson Ave, Commerce, CA 90040).

The family will be sitting shiva at 361 N. Vista St., Los Angeles, CA 90036.
Shacharis: 9:00 AM
Mincha followed by Maariv: 5:30 PM
The family requests no visitors between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM, and after 9:30 PM.

  1. BDE. I have such fond childhood memories of R’ Sholom Ber Levine. He was our Shabbos Bochur but became part of our family. So warm, so mentchlich, a real gentleman. Although over 60 years passed, I remember that feeling of excitement every time he came. He even drove all the way to our bungalow in the summer surprising us and bringing a huge bag of gifts for everyone. Many years later when we reconnected, the closeness was still strong; he was so interested in hearing about everyone. He was a real good, emesdik person.
