R’ Boruch Kavanovsky, an active member of the Chabad community in Perm, Russia, who served as a mashgiach kashrus and a member of the local chevra kadisha, passed away on Rosh Chodesh Elul, 5781.
He was 50 years old and passed away after being infected with covid-19.
R’ Boruch was a devoted chassid of the Rebbe, who was a pillar of the Chabad community in Perm, Russia. He served as a mashgiach kashrus, and head of the city’s chevra kadisha and delivered shiurim for locals.
Rabbi Zalman Deitch, the local shliach, said his passing was a “huge loss” for the community.
“R’ Boruch was tofeach al menas l’hatfiach – always passing on the light of Torah to another Yid. Every since he began living a frum lifestyle, he began studying Torah with true dedication, until he began delivering shiurim himself. At the same time, he was a mashgiach and traveled twice a month to factories up to 10 hours away,” he said.
Following his passing, his wife and 6 children, aged 12-23, remain without a source of income, and many heavy expenses to shoulder. The local community is turning to the wider Chabad community to come to their assistance and help cover their ongoing expenses.
“The family is literally left with nothing as R’ Boruch invested all his time and effort in Torah study and Hafotzos Hamayonos on behalf of the community,” Rabbi Deitch said.
