A large crowd of Crown Heights families and bochurim gathered at the SUNY Downstate campus on Thursday night for a public Menorah lighting on the first night of Chanuka.
The menorah lighting was arranged by Rabbi Yosef Holtzman, shliach to SUNY Downstate and attended by Crown Heights Assembly Brian Cunningham.
The Crown Heights Jewish community came out in large numbers after Hamas supporters on campus organized an antisemitic panel on “Medical Catastrophe in Gaza”, focused on the so-called “Medical Apartheid” to coincide with the menorah lighting.
The celebration featured live music and dancing and trays of chocolate and jelly donuts for all participants. A massive police presence from several stations was arranged to help secure the event.
