Following a resolution this week in the New York State Senate, President Street between Brooklyn and New York avenues, where the Rebbe and Rebbetzin lived, has been named “Lubavitcher Rebbe Way.”
The resolution, put forth by Senator Zellnor Y. Myrie of the 20th Senate District, recognizes the Rebbe’s impact on the Jewish world and beyond. At a senate session on Wednesday, Myrie expressed that it is an honor for New York City to recognize this message through the co-naming of President Street as “Lubavitcher Rebbe Way,” and urged his colleagues to join him in honoring the Rebbe by increasing acts of kindness.
The Senate adopted Resolution 545 and confirmed the renaming of the street.
The proposal was originally suggested and encouraged by Crown Heights activist R’ Yaacov Behrman on Gimmel Tammuz, 30 years. The proposal was formally introduced by Council Member Crystal Hudson, and it garnered substantial backing from local leaders and elected officials.
On Friday, the sign for “Lubavitcher Rebbe Way” was affixed to the lighpost on the corner of President St. and Brooklyn Ave.
