Popular Jewish News Site Hit by Iranian Hackers for Third Time

In what marks the third major cyberattack against the outlet, Yeshiva World News (YWN) was taken over by overseas hackers today, replacing the entire site with Iranian propaganda amid Operation Roaring Lions.

Readers attempting to access the popular Jewish news site Yeshiva World News (YWN) today were met with a complete site takeover. The entire domain was overwritten with Iranian propaganda imagery and a hostile message in Persian: “الان ما در کنترل هستیم. صهیونیست‌های کثیف,” translating to “We are now in control. Dirty Zionists.”

The defacement features a single prominent image showing Iranian terrorist leaders — figures recently eliminated by Israel in the opening strikes of Operation Roaring Lions — depicted holding the regime’s flags along with a black flag.

Kassy Akiva, a foreign affairs reporter for The Daily Wire, confirmed the hack, sharing the Persian text and translating it for her audience: “Now we are in control. Dirty Zionists.” Zvika Klein, Editor-in-Chief of the Jerusalem Post, flagged it to his followers, noting that the “American Jewish site – has been hacked.” Online observers noted the targeted nature of the attack, with one commenting, “Iran hacked Yeshiva World News! They really are obsessed with us.” Another described it as part of a “wave of pro-Muslim, anti-Israel cyberattacks targeting Jewish websites.”

Pro-Iranian actors have been hitting Jewish, Israeli, and Western targets at an increasing rate since Operation Roaring Lions began, and today’s breach is consistent with that pattern.

The massive Jewish news aggregator has in the past sourced Chabad news directly from Anash.org.

This marks the third major cyberattack on YWN. The previous full site takeover occurred during Chol Hamoed Sukkos in October 2023 — just days before the October 7 attacks — when overseas hackers temporarily forced the entire site offline.

No specific hacker group has claimed responsibility, and there are no indications of data theft or ransom demands.

As of the time of publication, the Iranian propaganda has been removed and the site is now displaying a holding page reading “We Will Be Back Shortly” — suggesting YWN has regained control of the domain and is in the process of restoring normal operations. YWN’s official channels have still not commented on the incident.
