A miracle occurred in Panama’s Bocas del Toro. A construction ship lost control near the Chabad house of Rabbi Motti and Sarit Cohen, where they were inside with guests. When collision seemed inevitable, the captain managed to steer the vessel away from the Chabad house, instead striking a neighboring building which was completely destroyed.
A large ship, loaded with heavy construction equipment, was sailing through the waterways of Panama’s Bocas del Toro archipelago when a malfunction occurred with its steering system. With the channel running parallel to the island’s residential housing, the ship began drifting sharply towards the nearest structures. With only moments to act and an inevitable crash looming, the captain had to choose between colliding with one of two buildings in the ship’s path.
The Shluchim to Bocas del Toro, Panama, Rabbi Motti and Sarit Cohen, were inside their Chabad house at that moment, saying goodbye to the many Israeli tourists and backpackers who had chosen to join the Seudos and tefillos at their island Chabad house during the powerful month of Tishrei.
With extensive road renovations underway, large ships had been arriving throughout the day, carrying heavy construction equipment necessary for the town’s road repairs.
As the ship lost control, the captain noticed it was about to crash into the Chabad house. With Hashem’s help, he managed to steer the ship into the neighboring house instead, thereby saving the Chabad house from destruction. The nearby house was later found to be completely destroyed, demonstrating the great miracle and what could have happened to the Chabad house with people inside, Chas V’Shalom.
