A new Sefer Torah was inaugurated in São Paulo, Brazil, at Beit Chabad Morumbi under the leadership of Rabbi Dovid Goldberg.
This special Torah was written in memory of the victims of last year’s Simchas Torah attack and funded collectively by the local community. Approximately 3,000 letters were acquired, with 50 individuals sponsoring entire parshios, having their names inscribed on the back of the Torah cover. The Atzei Chaims were crafted with care, and the crown featured a stunning blend of silver and gold.
The emotional event took place on Sunday night, 4 Tishrei, with around 500 attendees witnessing the conclusion of the Sefer Torah. Rabbi David Weitman delivered inspiring words, while Rabbi Yasha Dayan led prayers for the hostages and the wounded. Chazan Zalman Tzfasman uplifted the crowd with songs, including “Avinu Malkeinu.”
The Hachnasas Sefer Torah was celebrated on Simchas Torah with joyous Hakafos, singing, and dancing, honoring the victims and reinforcing the community’s enduring connection to our Torah, our land, and our people.
