Rabbi Menny and Peri Raichik have recently opened a new Chabad center in Houston, Texas under the auspices of Head Shliach Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff, with a focus on Israelis who live in Houston.
According to the Jewish Federation records, there are over 5,000 Israelis living in the proximity. This requires a dedicated shliach to concentrate solely on activities and programs for the community.
“Our goal is to open a Beit Chabad that will be active 7 days a week, paying special attention to each segment of the population—youth, young professionals, families and the elderly, with the goal of bringing all Jews closer to Torah and Mitzvot” The Raichiks say, “We also intend to develop programs that will light up the children’s imagination and inspire their Jewish identity.
Establishing a new Chabad House requires substantial “seed money.” Once established, the Raichiks plan to support themselves with local help, but right now they need to raise $80,000 to jumpstart their shlichus.
