Rabbi Menachem and Chana Wagner, along with their children, will establish the first Chabad Center in Southern Portugal’s Algarve region. The region, known as the “California of Europe,” attracts over 5 million tourists annually, hundreds of Israeli expats, and more than 100,000 international retirees, making it one of Europe’s most popular retirement havens.
Rabbi Menachem and Chana (née Reiter) Wagner, along with their children, Chaya Mushka and Mendel, have been appointed by Rabbi Eli Rosenfeld as the new Shluchim to Chabad of South Portugal. They will establish the first Chabad Center in Southern Portugal’s Algarve region.
Building on their upbringing as Shluchim of the Rebbe—Rabbi Wagner in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Chana Wagner in Roslyn, New York—the Wagners are dedicated to continuing this legacy.
The Algarve region, known as the “California of Europe,” attracts over 5 million tourists annually, hundreds of Israeli expats, and more than 100,000 international retirees, making it one of Europe’s most popular retirement havens. As Jewish families and individuals flock to the Algarve, the need for a Chabad House continues to grow.
With extensive experience in leading Chabad initiatives for all ages, Rabbi Menachem and Chana Wagner are excited to establish a thriving Jewish community, create a sense of belonging, and inspire spiritual growth.
“Opening a Chabad center in Southern Portugal is a dream come true,” say Rabbi Menachem and Chana Wagner. “We are committed to bringing the warmth of Jewish tradition to this unique community, embodying the Rebbe’s mission of reaching every Jew, no matter where they are.”
For the next three days, the Wagners are running a Charidy campaign to raise the necessary funds to launch this new Chabad center.
Be a part of this exciting initiative in establishing South Portugal’s first-ever Chabad House!
