In response to the growing Jewish community in Naberezhnye Chelny, a vibrant industrial city located two and a half hours from Kazan, Rabbi Chaim David and Chaya Tzippora Paer have been appointed as shluchim to lead the city’s thriving Jewish community.
Naberezhnye Chelny, the second-largest city in the Republic of Tatarstan, lies on the northeastern bank of the Kama River, near the Chelna River and the Nizhnekamskoye Reservoir. Known for its industrial prominence, the city is also home to a thriving Jewish population numbering in the thousands.
Rabbi Chaim David Paer, with blessings and guidance from Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Berel Lazar, and the Chief Rabbi of Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan, Rabbi Yitzchak Gorelik, will focus on strengthening and expanding the Jewish community. His initiatives will encompass key areas such as fostering Jewish education and tradition, providing humanitarian aid, organizing prayer services and Torah classes, and promoting cultural and youth engagement.
The Jewish community in Naberezhnye Chelny has recently witnessed a surge in activity, hosting numerous events and gatherings. A notable milestone is the ongoing construction of a new synagogue and Jewish Community Center (JCC), underscoring the growing demand for strong leadership.
