As the Jewish community in southeast Pennsylvania expands, Chabad is growing along with them. Rabbi Avraham and Chanie Deitsch have moved to Media, Pennsylvania to launch a new Chabad center in the city—and the fourth in the county, serving the estimated 29,000 Jewish residents in the 49 municipalities scattered across the county’s 184 square miles.

Every winter, hundreds of Jewish people gather along State Street—Media’s commercial artery—as local businesses host Chanukah Village. The holiday initiative was launched by Rabbi Tzvi and Rikki Altein, who’ve been serving Chabad of Delaware County, Pennsylvania for the past decade. Now the Deitsches will host regular events in the city. They will be reaching out to young families, many of whom work in nearby Philadelphia and have been attracted to Delaware County for the lower cost of living and family-friendly amenities.
