New Mesivta to Open in Vancouver, British Columbia

In Vancouver, Canada — one of the most beautiful and peaceful cities in North America — a new mesivta is being established for the coming yeshiva year of 5787. The yeshiva will focus on strong learning, personal attention, and healthy character development, helping each bochur grow into a refined, responsible, and truly uplifted young chossid.

The mesivta is geared toward boys who are looking for a broader and more supportive framework. It will be guided by mashpiim and rabbonim and will offer a full three-year program.

“There is a real need in North America for a yeshiva of this nature,” a member of the founding team explained. “A place that gives a bochur a Torah experience that lights up his inner world. A yeshiva that teaches how to live with meaning and joy, with a chassidishe warmth, a balanced approach, and true personal care — where each talmid is helped to grow in his own way and bring out the kochos he was given.”

The initiative is being led by Rabbi Shmulik Yeshayahu, Chabad shliach to Vancouver, British Columbia. His goal is to establish a makom Torah and Chassidus that will shine as a new light in North America. “At this stage,” Rabbi Yeshayahu shared, “we are assembling a team of rabbonim, mashpiim, and teachers who live and breathe chinuch — people who can bring our vision to life: Torah with warmth, Chassidus with depth, and an atmosphere filled with genuine ahavas Yisroel.”

At the heart of the mesivta, Rabbi Yeshayahu said, stands the posuk: “V’ha’arev na Hashem Elokeinu es divrei Torasecha b’finu.” Torah should be sweet, alive, and illuminating. “The goal is to raise bochurim who love Torah, who develop a sincere yiras Shamayim and deep emunah, and who live their learning with chassidishe chayus.”

The learning will rest on three pillars: serious Gemara with depth and clarity, practical halacha, and Chassidus and Tanya learned with real understanding and contemplation. The emphasis will be on energized learning with structure, consistency, and encouragement toward independent thinking.

Alongside limudei kodesh, talmidim will earn a full Canadian high-school diploma through a broad general-studies program. “All classes will be taught by Torah-observant teachers,” the administration noted, “with the goal of developing clear thinking, responsibility, creativity, and strong communication — without compromising on warmth or chassidishe values.”

The mesivta will offer comfortable dormitory conditions that help create a warm, family-style atmosphere. Daily life will include chinuch toward orderliness, cleanliness, responsibility, and mutual respect — in line with the teaching that the external should reflect the internal. Bochurim will learn to care for themselves and for others, to maintain their surroundings, and to conduct themselves with responsibility — preparation for living as true chassidishe bnei Torah.

Under Rabbi Yeshayahu’s leadership, the mesivta will operate with genuine concern for every talmid. The focus is on chinuch with heart — personal guidance, emotional support, and spiritual direction. The staff will work to help each bochur develop his inner strengths, balancing learning, personal growth, and healthy living.

“One of our main goals,” Rabbi Yeshayahu added, “is to prepare the boys for zal in the best possible way. We aim to equip them with the learning skills, self-awareness, and depth of thinking they’ll need to succeed and thrive in a yeshiva gedolah. For us, developing solid learning habits, real understanding, and independent thought is central.”

The mesivta is scheduled to open in the 5787 school year with its first Shiur Alef class and will grow each year until it reaches full size. Annual tuition and additional information are available at: [email protected]

It was also noted that scholarships will be available to ensure that any bochur who truly wants to grow in Torah and Chassidus will be able to attend.

“Ultimately,” Rabbi Yeshayahu concluded, “our mission is to raise a generation of bochurim who are yirei Shamayim, chassidim, and bnei Torah — young men who will carry the light of Torah and Chassidus with chayus, responsibility, and ahavas Yisroel. Our graduates will go out into the world with Torah glowing in their hearts, with firm emunah, and with a genuine sense of shlichus — to illuminate the world with the light of Chassidus.”
