New Haven Bochurim Lead Community Kaporos

The New Haven Anash community gathered at the Yeshiva in New Haven to perform kaporos in the days leading up to Yom Kippur. As in previous years, the yeshiva’s shluchim arranged the event for the community, with the chickens shechted by a chassidishe shochet and then properly kashered.
The poultry will remain for the benefit of the yeshiva, continuing a long-standing community tradition.
Dozens of families and bochurim took part, preparing for Yom Kippur by supporting the yeshiva’s ongoing work.
its so important that the chickens from kapporos get used, and not thrown out ch”v, great job to the shluchim!

In general I think that it’s not right that bachurim are spending their time around chickens instead of sitting down in zal and learning, especially during the aseres yimei tshuvah. After all a bachurs inyan is limud hatorah
The whole Vort of Limud Hatorah is to be connected to the Eibershter, doing Teshuvah is an essential part of that and that is what Kaporas is all about. Stop being so close-minded and realize that Bachurim need to do this as part of their Avodas Hashem. It is very important for a Yid that learns Torah to understand that the most important thing in life is a persons connection to the Eibershter. Period.
The sad reality is that although up until several decades ago every single Jewish housewife knew how to kasher chickens, it is now a totally unknown skill. So this is actually a once in a lifetime opportunity to gain a basic skill of yidishkeit. So these bochurim are definitely learning yidishkeit on a very practical level. Gmc”t
