Held on the first night of Chanuka, more than 300 people gathered for the launch of a new Chabad Centre in Mill Hill East, marking a powerful statement of Jewish unity, pride and resilience.

Speaking at the event, shliach Rabbi Dovie Schochet described the launch as deeply moving. “We are not just opening a building, we are lighting a flame,” he said. “This Centre will be a home for every Jew in Mill Hill East, a place of warmth, learning and proud Jewish life.”

The Chabad Centre will host Shabbos and Yom Tov services, children’s programmes, adult learning, community events and pastoral support, creating a welcoming space for Jews of all backgrounds. Rabbi Schochet explained that a Chabad House stands openly and shines outward, much like a menorah.

The launch took on added significance in light of the recent antisemitic terrorist attack at a Chanuka celebration in Australia. Referencing the challenges facing Jewish communities worldwide, the message of the evening was clear that the Jewish response to hatred is unity, faith and strengthening Jewish life.

Rabbi Levi Sudak of Chabad of Edgware affixed the mezuzah, formally marking the opening of the Centre. Children were all smiles throughout the event, enjoying circus toys and balloons provided by BBZ, adding to the joyful Chanuka atmosphere.

As the doors of the new Centre opened, the evening concluded with a sense of optimism and purpose, as the Chabad Centre looks set to become a lasting source of light for the Mill Hill East community.
