A new Chabad House has opened and will operate permanently at the site of the Sydney massacre. It will be called “Ohel Eli v’Yaakov” after the Chabad Shluchim murdered in the attack, Rabbi Eli Schlanger and Rabbi Yaakov Levitan Hy”d.

On the day marking the conclusion of Shiva and the erection of the Matzeivos on the graves of the Kedoshim murdered in the Sydney Chanukah massacre, a Chabad House was opened in containers. It will soon be upgraded to a permanent structure.

Tens of thousands of Jews from all over Australia arrived at the scene of the attack to pay final respects to the 15 victims of the massacre at the Chanukah party over a week ago. They put on Tefillin at the makeshift Chabad House at the scene. Today marked the next stage in the strengthening of Judaism in Bondi. Two structures were placed this morning to serve as the Chabad House at the attack site, where tens of thousands of Jews will continue to flock and put on Tefillin in memory of the souls of the Kedoshim.

Local Shliach Rabbi Noach Koncepolski stated, “The place will serve as a magnet for the tens of thousands visiting the site, exactly as Rabbi Eli and Yaakov Hy”d would have so wanted.”

The shooting attack in Sydney claimed the lives of 15 people and injured more than 40 others during the first candle lighting event of Chanukah at Bondi Beach, initiated by the local Chabad House.
