Bruce Blakeman, the 10th County Executive of Nassau County, New York, visited the Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens, accompanied by 12 of the Rebbe’s shluchim from his county, which is home to the largest Jewish community in the United States, outside of New York City.

Before davening at the Ohel, Blakeman put on tefillin with Chabad shliach to the Five Towns, Rabbi Zalman Wolowik, who also blew the shofar for him in honor of Chodesh Elul. Rabbi Wolovik then presented the moved Blakeman with a shofar.

Blakeman wrote a pan and entered the Ohel together with the 12 shluchim, where they davened for the safety of the Jewish people and the swift end of the ongoing war. Joining them was Congresswoman Maizie Phillips, who prayed alongside the group.

Blakeman is a proud Jew who never shies away from openly expressing his Jewish identity and has been a close friend of the Wolovik family for nearly three decades, supporting them at every stage of their shlichus. He actively encourages the largest public menorah lighting each year, turning it into a community event attended by thousands, of which he takes great pride.

The local shluchim describe him as someone with a deep connection to the Rebbe, who visits the Ohel frequently and regards it with profound seriousness – seeing it not just as a place to receive a bracha, but as a call to action that inspires him to give back and make a difference.

The group of 12 shluchim who accompanied Blakeman from Nassau County was led by the most senior shliach on Long Island, Rabbi Anchelle Perl, who introduced Chabad to the area. Accompanying him were Rabbi Zalman Wolowik, Rabbi Mendy Brownstein, Rabbi Yona Eidelkop, Rabbi Noach Goldschmidt, Rabbi Eli Goodman, Rabbi Mendy Gordon, Rabbi Levi Gurkov, Rabbi Shimon Kramer, Rabbi Yossi Rabl, Rabbi Yossi Lieberman, and Rabbi Nachum Tenenbaum.
